Jesus Said "Come!"

Jesus Said "Come!"

David fell into the pit of darkest, deepest sin,
Causing his beloved child to go to God in heaven.
Though it was his father's sin that caused the child his pain,
David knew, when he was gone, he'd be with him again. (2 Samuel 12:15-23)

Jesus walked the rugged roads of Israel's promised land,
Saw his little ones refused His gracious, loving hand.
Then He said "Forbid them not! Let children come to Me -
To enter in my heavenly place, like children you must be." (Matthew 19:13-15)

When we heard the news of your sweet heartbeat, then we knew
God had blessed us both with the most precious gift of you!
Yet He gave and took away - our hearts were torn in two;
But we found hope and confidence in this sustaining truth:

Refrain:

Jesus said "Come!" Jesus called!
Jesus took our little one into His everlasting arms.
Though in this fallen world of sin, our hearts are broken now;
One day He will return and then - we'll go to them in Heav'n.

Declare His Glory - A Missions Chorus

Very excited to have collaborated with pianist & composer Graceanne Starr to write the theme chorus for the recent missions conference at Bible Baptist Church. As a church music professor at Bob Jones University used to say “When God works people sing.”

“Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations.” 1 Chronicles 16:24

Lyrics:

"Declare His glory and His grace
To every soul in every place.
Proclaim the love of Christ who died to free
The desperate soul bound in captivity."

I Trust in You

“I Trust In You” was written as the Lord worked in our hearts  concerning the chaos and uncertainty in the world around us right now.  We hope it will be a blessing to you!

Click here for a demo recording of the piano accompaniment.

Lyrics:

The fear that grips the world around me
The doubt the drives it to despair
The power of the dark is broken
Christ’s triumph now is mine to share

Lord You have been my shield and fortress
And You have been my one defense
So I will trust Your lovingkindness
My heart will ever be at rest.

I will not fear the gathering darkness
I will not dread the deepest night
My hope is anchored in Your goodness
My spirit lifted by Your light!

Chorus:
I trust in You my righteousness!
I trust in You my strong defense!
My heart is fixed upon your Name
My mouth proclaims Your glory and fame!

A Child of the Almighty

1 John 3:1 "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not."

"A Child of the Almighty"

I'm a child of the Almighty,
The Creator of all that is.
In every need He will supply;
All the wealth of the world is His.

Chorus:
He is my mighty Father,
Who provides my every need.
My Comforter, Sustainer,
The Rock to which I flee.

Nothing then can ever snatch me
From the hollow of His hand;
So leaning on His mighty arm,
I will follow the path He's planned.

Living water ever flowing,
This new hope He has given me.
His mercy overflows my cup;
He sends blessing beyond degree!

"Delivered Up"

During the fall semester of 2009, Mr. Nathan Crockett of the Bible faculty here at Bob Jones University preached a sermon entitled "The Greatest Day In History." This is the day that the ultimate sacrifice for sin was made, when Christ was delivered up to die.

The people involved in Christ's death all had different reasons for delivering Him up. Judas wanted money, the priest envied Him, Pilate feared the Jews; all of these had a part in delivering Christ up to die. But the ultimate reason that God's Son was delivered up to die was that God loved us!

Here are the lyrics and the sheet music for "Delivered Up":

"Delivered Up"

Judas delivered up my Lord
Because he wanted wealth,
Gave Him up to the Roman sword;
He chose to please himself.

The priests delivered up the Lamb
Because they envied Him.
Then before Pilate's throne they came:
Would he give Christ to them?

Pilate delivered up the King
Because he feared the Jews.
Throughout his courts their cries did ring;
Their bidding he would do.

But God delivered up His Son
Because He loved my soul;
The perfect, spotless, righteous One
Was sent to make me whole!

Chorus:
Christ was delivered up to die
That I might live with Him on high;
Forever in that land above,
I will sing of my Savior’s love.

"Great High Priest"

The author of Hebrews speaks of our Great High Priest in chapter seven, verses twenty-four through twenty-eight.

 "But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore."

 Here are the lyrics for "Great High Priest":

"Great High Priest"

Great High Priest in heaven above,
You are the Holy King of Love.

You understand my desp'rate need,
For me You stand and intercede.

You have promised to hear my call,
Your blood has saved me from the fall.
Tempted were You as I have been,
Yet You are Holy, free of sin.

Boldly standing through Your grace,
I come and seek Your holy face.
With confidence I will draw near,
I have no doubts, I have no fear.

Chorus:
O Great High Priest, to you I cry!
Look upon me see my plight;
It was for me that you died,
Lord, fill my soul with your light.

Our friend Paul Keew explains why both new and old hymns and sacred songs are vital to a healthy spiritual life.

Tuesday

"I Praise You, Lord"

"I will praise Thee, O LORD, with my whole heart" - Psalm 9:1a

"I Praise You, Lord"

As I think of this incredible grace,
That I have been made a son
.
And as I gaze into my Father's face,
And thank You for what You have done,

You have washed me clean and have set me free,
From all my sin and shame.
By Christ's atoning death on the tree,
I bear no weight or blame.

I thank you Lord, for Your pardon whole,
And for cleansing me from sin.
For ransoming my lost wandering soul,
And cleansing my life from within.

Chorus:
I Praise You Lord, For Who You are;
I bow before your throne.
I marvel at Your grace and love,
And worship You alone.

"Justice, Mercy, and Grace"

Another new song from Michtam Music:

"Justice, Mercy, and Grace"

He saw me in my sin and shame,
And in His tender mercy came.
He loved me when I knew Him not,
And for my soul He came and sought.

His free gift He brought down to me
When He suffered on Calvary.
By His grace I have been made whole;
His precious blood has saved my soul.

My sin debt by His death is paid,
And with His blood atonement made.
Now here do I stand justified,
Because it was for me He died.

Chorus:
Upon the cross of Calvary,
Where Christ my Savior died for me;
Justice, mercy, grace flowed down:
Amazing grace, O wondrous sound!

Our 1st Demo Mp3 Released! - Introducing "Washed Anew"

In Psalm 51:1-2, King David prays " Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin."

"Washed Anew"

Before Your throne I come again
And bow in humble disgrace,
Seeking cleansing from my sin,
Seeking my Father's face.

Chorus:

Wash me anew in the blood of Christ,
Make me free of guilt and blame;
Nothing but Your grace can suffice
To remove my sin and shame.

My High Priest is before Your throne,
He died for sinners like me.
I've been chosen as His own,
He is my only plea.

While living my life here below,
Temptations I face each day;
And for cleansing this I know:
Christ is the only way.

"He Will Make His Mountains a Way"

Our newest missions hymn "He Will Make His Mountains a Way" owes its conception to a line spoken by Tim Keesee in Frontline Mission's 2nd episode of  Dispatches from the Front. (See the trailer below) Hampton Park Baptist Church showed the entire DVD during an evening service last year.
A Bold Advance from Dispatches From The Front on Vimeo.

"He Will Make His Mountains a Way"

 I gaze across this valley,
And I see a thousand lost souls;
My heart cries out in agony,
"O  how will they all be told?"

Chorus:
He will make His mountains a way
For these to come and revere.
Shout for joy, rejoice and say
“The comfort of God now is here.”
For now is the accepted hour,
Our redemption soon draws near.
Reach sinners in the Spirit’s power;
Spare no bitter tears.
When I reach my eternal place
By the throne these souls I’ll see,
Redeemed by God’s atoning grace,

Ransomed and set free.
So shine the gospel light today
Into the night so broad and deep.
Preach to the dying life, and pray;
Follow the Spirit’s lead.

"Though I Feel Alone"

"Though I Feel Alone"

When waves of fear and doubt surround me,
Like mighty billows on the sea.
Darkness, sorrow, sin oppress me,
Still through the night Your hand I see.

Chorus:
Though I feel alone in the night,
Still You are right there beside.
When of Your love I lose sight,
I will trust you my guide.

Though all around me roars the tempest,
Still safe, secure I rest in You.
Though the day dies in the west,
With morning's light comes grace anew.

Again I look to you my Savior,
You will be my comfort sure.
You will hold me in Your arms;
And I shall always rest secure.

I'm sheltered in the Saviors shadow;
I'm shielded from the darts of hell.
Traveling through the darkest night,
Soon with my Savior I will dwell.

"The God Who Provides"

Psalms 84:11 "For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly."

Romans 8:32 "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"

"The God Who Provides"

I’m resting in the God Who provides;
Jehovah-Jirah is His Name.
My every need He will supply,
And He is always the same.
Chorus:
Though my need overwhelms my sight,
And in my darkness no hope appears,
 Almighty God has seen my plight;
He will answer, He will hear.
In times of fear and deep distress,
He  is my comfort and my stay.
He will console me, guide, and bless;
He leads me in His way.
More than enough for my every need,
My God I find to be my All;
And when His hand I cannot see,
On His matchless name I will call.

"Jesus, Loving Shepherd"

Throughout scripture, and particularly in the Psalms, we see the picture of Christ as our Shepherd. Perhaps the most well known of all Psalms, Psalm 23, is completely focused on this concept. In Isaiah, all men are referred to as sheep that have gone astray. In our newest song "Jesus, Loving Shepherd," the picture of Christ saving us and leading us in our Christian lives is beautifully portrayed in a blend of text and music. Here are the lyrics:

"Jesus Loving Shepherd"

Jesus loving Shepherd, Keeper of my soul,
By Your grace I’ve been redeemed, Your blood has made me whole.
I was held in sin’s dominion, without God, a rebel wild;
Yet You left Your Father’s paradise to make this wretch His Child.

Though You gave Your all for me my lost soul to win,
Yet I still so often stray, turn back to paths of sin.
But Your love is all around me, it will never let me go;
It will always bring me back again, new depths of grace to know.

Rugged is the way I tread, mighty is my Foe,
Yet Your calming presence, near, protects me as I go.
In Your strength I’ll be victorious, though in sorrow’s realm I roam;
Through the perils on the path of life, Your love will lead me home.

Jesus, loving Shepherd, ever faithful Friend
I am Yours forever, sealed sure unto the end!
All earth’s conflicts, then in glory, shall be mine no more to fight;
When at last I see Your blessed face, all shall be ceaseless light!

"No Reserves, No Retreats, No Regrets" - A Life Lived for Christ's Glory

During the 2009 Missions Emphasis week here at Bob Jones University, we were introduced to a young man's life story: a story that is still having an incredible impact even though he was born over a hundred years ago.

Young William Borden had it all. As the heir to the Borden family fortune, he was a millionaire. When he graduated from high school, his graduation gift from his parents was an extended trip around the world! As a student at Yale, he was well-liked and popular. Yet it was not any of these things that made a lasting impact on the world: it was his faith.

As a devoted Christian, William desired to serve his Lord with all of his heart. While still in high school, he expressed the feeling that God was calling him to be an overseas missionary. After a friend told him that he was "throwing himself away to become a missionary," William wrote two words on the back page of his Bible: "No Reserves."

 After graduating from Yale, William followed through in becoming a foreign missionary, turning down several highly-lucrative job offers. Again he wrote two words in the back of his Bible: "No Retreats."

 At the young age of 25, William Borden was dead. He had gone to Egypt to study the Muslim culture and Arabic and help in the local mission work; his goal was to eventually become a missionary to Muslims in China. While there in Egypt, William contracted spinal meningitis, and he passed away before his mother and sister could arrive. Borden's death was international news. Major newspapers around the world carried the story of the young millionaire who had given everything to be a missionary.

 Under the other quotations in the back of his Bible, there were found yet two other words: "No Regrets."

 "No Reserves, No Retreats, No Regrets" - Later that evening when the full impact of this story hit home,Taylor penned the poem bearing this quotation as the title. Later he showed the poem to Ethan, who then composed a four-part vocal score for the words as well as a solo vocal arrangement. This was their first collaboration.

"No Reserves, No Retreats, No Regrets"

Though the trail may be sharp and full of curves,
I follow the Lord, I have no reserves.
Trusting in God and in His perfect plan,
I'll take the Word to a far and strange land.

Though hell’s arrows and darts around me beat,
The Lord is my tow’r, I shall not retreat.
I'll not run from the trials God allows;
He'll grant me strength as before Him I bow.

Though my work and my name men may forget,
I work for the Lord, I have no regrets.
I'm in the center of God's perfect will;
His way is best, whether for good or ill.

"Be My All"

Dr. Jim Berg, the former Dean of Students at Bob Jones University has written several books that have greatly blessed me over the years. Changed Into His Image, God is More Than Enough, and the DVD series Quieting a Noisy Soul have all been instrumental in my Christian life. One of the reoccuring themes in all of these works is that God is our all; that He is more than enough for our every need. This new song, "Be My All" is a prayer to the Lord, asking Him to "be my all."

"Be My All"

When I'm living in the shadows
Of my foolish sinful mind,
When I've lost sight of Your meadows,
Let me there Your goodness find.

Chorus:

Be my all, Lord Jesus all
More than enough for me.
Restore me when I fall;
Let me Your nature see.

All sufficient for each need,
You are the gracious King.
You are good in word and good in deed;
It is Your grace that I sing.

Father, break me of my own will;
Send me now and I will go.
Let me serve You and Your plan fulfill;
Then Your godness I will show.

"A New Day"

"Come unto Me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
- Matthew 11:28

"A New Day"

Now as this new day I begin,
No strength I find my own;
But when I turn to you again,
I hear Your gracious tone.

“O come to Me, you weary ones,
And a new strength receive!
You’ll be to Me as My own Son,
If you’ll only Me believe.”

You will no more remember now
My vast iniquities;
For when I pray and humbly bow,
You’ll always forgive me.

Though days be hard, and night be long,
To You I’ll pray within;
New strength I’ll find and a new song,
When to You I turn again!

Now as this new day I begin,
New strength I find from Him;
O won’t you come, you’ll find in Him
New light though your way be dim.
